Brief run-down of latest events & links

Despite all the government's attempts to prevent people organising and reporting on events in Tunisia, it was announced that President Ben Ali was sent packing this evening following a sudden and high impact wave of protest in which dozens of people were killed.

The mainstream press reports that ordinary people were driving the protests and that opposition parties played a relatively minor role.

A few highlights from the past couple of days.

Hammamet police station was ransacked and goods torched:

Posh villas belonging to the family of Leila Trabelsi, the hated first lady, were systmatically pillaged:
