BNP byelection setback

Arthur Brick | 14.01.2011 15:51 | Anti-racism

The BNP's share of the vote in yesterday's Oldham East and Saddleworth byelection went down. Another sign of a fascist party in disarray.

This byelection was held in an area where the BNP are tradtionally strong, but their vote share has dropped. Here are the figures:

General election 2001 - 4th, 11.2%
General election 2005 - 4th, 4.9%
General election, May 2010 - 4th, 5.7%
Byelection, Jan 2011 - 5th, 4.5%

So, this is the BNP's worst performance in this constituency in 10 years and four elections, and shows how the party continues to struggle under Griffin's ludicrous leadership. Antifascists say - keep up the good work, Nick!

shame about Straw

Shame though that Labour in the form of Jack "white meat" Straw felt the need to stir up prejudice so they could pick up on those Nazi votes.

Not helpful?

That's a meaningful decline? Except for the anomoly of 2001 their support there seems pretty constant at around 5%. Not good that they get even that much support, but........

It doesn't help our cause when we "headline" contrary to our articles. Makes us look like idiots who don't know what we are talking about.

It would have been more correct to applaud that their support hadn't grown, or if we want to describe it as declining, then "a slight decline" (which CAN be grounds for some rejoicing if they had made an expensive all out effort to increase their vote share).
