Blonde riot jail governor 'in a lesbian relationship with one of her prison officers'

The governor of the open prison set on fire in a drunken riot is in a lesbian relationship with one of her jail officers, it emerged today. Blonde HMP Ford boss Sharon Williams, who has split from her husband, lives with employee Jackie Jefcut. Today the Prison Service said they were aware of her personal relationship - but stressed that Ms Williams was a 'capable' worker.

Around £3million worth of damage was caused to the jail as 40 inmates went on a 22-hour New Year's Day rampage. But the Prison Service said the governor's relationship had 'no bearing on the running of the prison'.

An insider told the Sun: 'The relationship between Ms Williams and Miss Jefcut has been the talk of the jail. They were often seen strolling around the prison holding hands'. Ms Williams does not have direct line management over Miss Jefcut, sources said. However, the pair were photographed leaving an inquest together last August.
