Some thoughts about wikileaks

niente | 20.12.2010 17:14 | Analysis | Globalisation | Other Press

The other night, I was thinking about, well if I was the head of the CIA, or the NSA or the president of the world or whatever, what would I do about wikileaks.

Now, the first obvious thing to do, and I actually figured that part on day one, is to play it down. As soon as the documents came out, I would of gone public said something like, "well, not a big deal...", there aren't any military secrets as such, no positions of troops, no plans for our next gen bomber, no nuclear sites etc, nothing too bad. I would of stuck to the line that It's not a bad thing for me, and that alone would of made the leaks viewed by a lot less people. if I'd wanted to try and take it down, I would of done it in much more stealthy way, I would of published several copies of contradicting but similar cables, to discredit the originals, and if I would of tried to take wikileaks down, it would be in a much less obvious way. This if you notice is the opposite of what actually happened. they actually went public and said "Panic" which made a lot more people take notice of these.

Well, if that have happened what would be my next options?
I could assassinate Assange, now this isn't that easy, but doable, and if I'd do it right, then only conspiracy nuts would believe that this is my doing, much like Dr. David Kelly. now this case will be a bit harder, and this option should stay on the table, but not yet, not before I know about the "Insurance", which I would have a 1000 mathematicians working on cracking. What's more it won't stop any more cables being released.

Another option is to destroy his name, which they actually tried, and is working to a certain extent, but while punishing the messenger will send warning signals to anyone thinking about doing this in the future, won't stop the problem, and has a lot of the drawbacks that assassinating him would have.

yet another option, a much better one than the other two, is to blackmail someone he cares about instead, dig some shit on him, the sort of dirt that can't go public, and try and use it to subdue Assange, has this happened? we can't tell, but it's a possibility. And some things are so scary that if he has anyone who can be held for ransom, he will almost certainly buckle, and I mean dirty shit, like getting his mother raped or something, just to give you and idea of how low i would go.

Then I realized, No, this isn't what I would do, What I would do, is what I do to every resistance to anything, To any protest movement, to any riot, to any union. I will make this normal, part of the ritual, an element of the status-quo, working in-favor of me. This is actually a much much better option then all of the rest. this leaves me in control, sure every once in a while I will have to give up some juicy gossip about my diplomats and statesman, but I won't have to give much, and I can put information I want people to know and they'll take is as the gospel because it's a "leak". I could even use it to silence descent, I could take the whole ritual of sacrificing the messenger, to plant the fear of god at anyone who's thinking to go against me, I would destroy people in full public view, and punish them severely for going against me, even though they aren't actually, they're just pawns in my game. I will use this for PR at the highest calibre, after all what I care about is how much power I have, not whether people think I am honest. now let's face it, the moral of these leaks, isn't that the government didn't protect it's documents, it isn't that any secrets were revealed, it's that governments are fucking corrupt, that they lie and cheat and manipulate and much more, but not a lot of this is news. Sure there are some gory details that we may not have known, but the essence is this, who here is surprised the the US spied on the UN? who here is surprised that shell knows the Nigerian government inside out,That Saudi is getting favors from the US? I knew that, sure I've never heard it from the horses mouth but I didn't need to.
Truth be told this changes nothing, there isn't going to be a rebellion because only a few deluded people in mental institutes ever thought politicians are honest. and as the ruler of the world it hasn't been a problem in generations, why should this change now?

Now this is my game, and I am the only one who sees the whole board, or at least the most parts, this is a great PR opportunity for me, assimilate this decent, I could choose a person with the right sort of profile to be the source or to take the lead on the leaks, I could find someone which I have pull over which I know the weaknesses of, which I know I can control and make him the public face for this (Then completely destroy him when I'm done). Even if something I don't want to come out does, I can still use it to disseminate my own propaganda too.

If secrets are the currency of the state, then I just found a way to cash in on them.

Now, makes you think, how much of all of this is honest to god truth, and how much are we being played for?

P.S. Aren't you happy I'm not the ruler of the world?
