Campaigners in Cambridge were recently alerted to the fact that Mook Vintage 2 King Street, Cambridge, CB1 1LN (Phone: 01223 316001) are selling fur. After a letter from the activists was ignored by the shop, a protest took place outside their premises on 10th December to coincide with International Animal Rights Day and mark the beginning of the campaign against Mook Vintage's sale of real animal fur.
The vintage fur trade is used to perpetuate the sale of items of new fur. Vintage fur helps to make the use and sale of fur 'acceptable' and allows designers the space to incorporate fur into their clothing. In fact some new fur is sold as 'vintage' via vintage stores.
Protesters maintain a presence outside the store for 5 hours educating shocked passers-by about Mook Vintages sale of fur items. The public response was very positive with lots of people stopping to show support, agreeing to contact the shop about the issue, offering donations and one gentleman even offered to get a cup of tea or coffee for an activist.
Many ethical vintage businesses nationwide have fur free policies and are rewarded by custom from aware consumers that only shop at fur free retailers. The campaign will continue until Mook Vintage make the right ethical and business choice and drop all fur from their store.
Please contact Mook Vintage on 01223 316001 and ask them to go fur free. If you are in the area please pop-in and speak to them: Mook Vintage 2 King Street, Cambridge, CB1 1LN
