Christmas tree

This group were presumably ignorant of the symbolism of this tree. It isn't a symbol of the expenses fiddlers in Westminster and their disgraceful votes to attack students. It isn't a symbol of the government at all. It is a gift from the people of Oslo to the people of London to thank them, and more broadly the people of the UK, for their great help between 1940 (when Norway was invaded) and 1945. I thought youngsters these days did too much on the Second World War in history, but I was wrong.

The practical arrangements are organised by councils in Oslo and London, but they are representing the will of the people about the tree.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trafalgar_Square_Christmas_tree

The cretins who tried to set it on fire deserve to be shown the error of their ways. The police did very little good on the demonstration, but putting the fire out was one of the few good things they did.

It's great that students have become more active, but don't kick the people of Oslo in the teeth, aim at the people responsible for the cuts. That is the banksters and politicians.
