The WOMBLES are coming.....again!

ftp | 08.12.2010 14:01 | Other Press | Repression

In what has become a bit of a tradition, Commander Bob Broadhurst has once again resurrected the WOMBLES in an attempt to justify the attacks that the cops will undoutably make on the mostly peaceful demonstrators on Thursday's protest.

Once were Wombles: (2001)
Once were Wombles: (2001)

That he knows the WOMBLES are no longer an active protest group is made clear in this BBC article, where he stated, prior to the G20 that "there was evidence that groups not seen since the 1990s, such as direct action exponents Reclaim the Streets and the Wombles, were re-forming and planning activity.". They did not appear.

Oscar Beard failed to see the mystical WOMBLES at Sack Parliament in 2006, after another Broadhurst warning, and despite warnings in the Telegraph, neither did they materialise at Heathrow's Climate Camp.

Perhaps Bob Broadhurst is suffering from delsusions or flashbacks which mean that he is constantly seeing WOMBLEs that aren't there, and, if so, it is illuminating that rather than exposing his delusions, the corporate media continues to share them. More likely he has learnt that raising the spectre is an easy way to justify attacking all protestors, an agenda seemingly shared with corporate journalists such as Justin Davenport and Anna Davis of the Standard.

Wimbles

Tho they were sweet, the WOMBLES (white overalls mean something or other) were pretty tame even in 2001. I remember a demo against racism in Tottenham that they DID come to, on which the police were a bit angsty about their presence, but no idea why as all they did was, er wear white overalls and, oh yeah, carry a banner. (or maybe not even the banner, can't recall!) Dangerous stuff indeed.

The Wombles were at the '05 G8, and I could slag them off for their behaviour their, but since some of them are active IMCistas then I couldn't do it here.

Fleabite, meet ftp, I'm interested if you have anything to add.

"I cant slag em off here" with solidarity like that, who needs enemies?

08.12.2010 16:10

the wombles were a "decadent" pacifist group, but they were also well padded & able to defend themselves using practised manouvers, phalanxes, etc.
They were as well organised& padded, if not better organised than many black blocs& it would be great to see them again in some guise.

Solidarity?

08.12.2010 16:42

I should be showing solidarity with the same people who had me blacklisted ten years ago and grassed up as a terrorist four years ago?

I was invited along to the Wombles student recruitment in Bristo Square in '05, and turned back at the door when I spotted the two policemen pretending to be skateboarders outside. The following weeks where the Wombles ignored military industrial targets and instead smashed up poor peoples cars and an unguarded burger joint - but not the one with the guard - shows I was right.

Middle class Swappies and LibCommies and state assets in my experience. Still, ignore me, I'm happy to sit back and see how the WomblIMCistas here respond.

"I cant slag em off here"

08.12.2010 17:30

See, I really can't slag them off here. Earlier this year I was charged by the police due to one of their friends, and one of the allegations the police interviewer relayed was I had accused my accuser of being a police informer.

Read that again before it is hidden. Without any irony, the police tried to charge me for calling their informant a police informer, and looked genuinely upset when I burst out laughing.

The sad fact is though that IMCistas including ftp, so brave to criticise other groups, have failed to try to investigate the same police scum operating within IM.

Like this but its an W-A thngy in a circle
Like this but its an W-A thngy in a circle

I think the Wombles covered a wide flavour of anarchist and even libertarian-Marxists views. Or did they. Who knows. Just don't ask the cops or undercover journos (hello) for the truth.

Anyway, I believe in the centre of London there is a large light that beams a giant W" in the sky so that Comissioner 'Bob' Gordon can shine when he needs to create some more moral panic amongst the stupid and the misinformed.ie Evading Standardski readers.

Still I'm sure WAG will be the next group to demonise. Tell the cops tuna and chicken sandwiches are on us....
