Students To Attempt Vote Of No Confidence In Aaron Porter?
The Armchair Avenger | 04.12.2010 13:10 | Public sector cuts | Social Struggles
It looks as though momentum is steadily growing for a vote of no confidence in disgraced NUS President Aaron Porter, so I thought I'd help try and drum up support for this by publicising the idea.
NUS President Aaron Porter (he of the obvious careerist self-interest and obedient lapdog-like tendencies to his political masters regarding the issue of increased tuition fees, that he tries to pass of as being merely undecided on the issue) might possibly be subject to a vote of no confidence owing to his disgraceful handling of the affair.
Personally, I'd be delighted to see him summarily ejected from his position as NUS President as his words and actions are quite clearly far more in the interests of the political establishment than in the interest of the NUS membership who he claims to lead.
A Facebook group for interested students has been set up and is looking to garner support for calling for a no confidence vote in Aaron Porter and, in my personal opinion, Porter being ejected from his post in favour of a replacement who works on behalf of the NUS membership and not those who would triple tuition fees while also cutting education budgets to the bone could only be a good thing.
The Facebook group can be found here:

Feel free to publicise this as much as possible, whenever and wherever it can reach more people in the hope that Porter can be removed and replaced with a fighting NUS President who actually cares more for the interests of NUS members than for his own ambitions and obediently obeying the wishes of the powers that be.

NUS presidents are always careerist lapdogs

It's a sad paradox that wanting to be a powerful politician means you certainly aren't suitable as one. And conversely that if someone was going to make a good politician, they surely wouldn't want to be one.
Do we really need "leaders" of this style? How about some good old-fashioned anarchy?

I remember when Jack Straw was NUS President. He was an arsehole then and he never changed.
It made me want to puke when I heard this creep on Radio 4 Ten O'Clock News The World Tonight a couple of days ago being interviewed as though he somehow represented students. He does not.
The ideal replacement would be Clare Solomon, the excellent leader of the London Students. She talks a lot of sense and comes across very well. See for example the interview she gave to London Indymedia a couple of weeks ago. Contrast it with the interviews the creep gave round about the same time.

The creep must go and the sooner the better.
