A demonstration has been called in Newcastle upon Tyne today Monday November 29th, to hand in letters of support for Belal and demonstrate against his planned deportation.Meeting at 11am at the government offices, Gallowgate (or there will be an earlier meeting point at 10am at the university occupation)

Belal Amleh is a a young man who came to the UK to seek asylum after suffering months of torture in an Israeli prison when he was just 18 years old. He was tortured because he refused to become a spy for them.

During his months in prison he was repeatedly beaten with batons and gun buts, left in a freezing cell for days on end, handcuffed and stabbed with a pen until the pen broke, and had both his feet broken.

Six weeks after his release Hamas approached him to join their armed forces. Because he wanted a normal life he refused, and they threatened to kill him as a traitor and spy. While he has been in the UK Hamas have repeatedly approached his family to find out where he is and what he is doing.

On Wednesday he was arrested by the home office and moved from his home with my sister in Halifax to a detention centre in Middlesex. Their intention is to deport him to Jordan on Tuesday, from where he will be taken overto the border crossing at Allenby Bridge, he had a passport but no ID and is in direct danger of being arrested and taken by the Israelis - again.

Belal is in direct and immediate danger of torture and murder. We need the UK Government to reconsider this deportation, to consider his human rights to life, liberty and security of person - as set down in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We support the right of Suzanne Allott, a British citizen, to marry the person of her choosing and remain in the country of her birth with that person.
