Students from Cherwell threatened with detention for exercising democratic right
24.11.2010 15:42
Students from Cherwell School, who today joined fellow student protesters in the centre of Oxford, to protest against the cuts, will serve detention for using their democratic rights. They were warned by the school that if they left school grounds to go on the demonstration, then they would receive a C3, putting them in detention. Despite this, many students ignored the warning and took to the streets in a show of solidarity this afternoon.
In words of one student from Cherwell School, "in citizenship, they teach us to exercise our democratic rights and stand up for ourselves, and when we do, they penalise us for it!"
