At the moment anyone can follow the feed in three ways

: Add the RSS feed to your RSS client straight to your PC, smart-phone and other devices

: Follow the feed on twitter ( http://twitter.com/AnimalRightsUK)
: Add 'Animalrights Ukfeed' as a friend on facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/animalrightsuk)

I am currently working on option four, a mailing list that send out the news weekly

the feed is currently being followed by an estimated 350-450 individuals as-well as being available to view on websites such as  http://www.sheffieldaf.org.uk/ (look on the left half way down)

the feed was created to encourage grass-roots groups to keep informed and help each-other (eg. Oh look there's a fur demo in Nottingham, I might go to that). In this sense there has been some success and has shown to have some additional benefits, such as.

: the ability to post anonymously on indymedia and have that information shared on 'non secure' websites such as facebook without anyone held accountable (as it is automatic I cannot be held accountable for what is posted)
: encourages groups to keep there websites/twitter/blog up-to date knowing that many people will see the information
: makes it slightly harder for profile to be created on certain activists and their interests (eg. Following the all groups in the feed is vaguer than following Nottingham animal rights and Shac.

However a news feed is only effective as

1)the news it posts
2)the people who read it

this is where I would like you to help

if you are in a animal rights group

make sure your group uses some form of RSS, this is easilly done in many ways, such as
: adding a blog to your website
: creating a twitter acount (which when set up can be updated easilly by text message)
: it is also possible to create an email adress that automatically converts to RSS (added to your public email list and your sorted)


To get more people to follow the feed please:
: share news we publish (share link on facebook, retweet on twitter)
: add the feed to your website (like Sheffield animal friends  http://www.sheffieldaf.org.uk)
: recommend people to follow the feed (maybe suggest us on facebook)
: span the internet (eg.post about the feed on AR/vegan forums)
