Peace strike camp open in Whitehall come down.

Peace strike | 20.11.2010 18:26

The Peace strike camp today was set up in Whitehall after the stop the war coalition anti-war rally. About 200 people marched down to set up the camp opposite Downing Street and it is now up and running. Come down and help out.

We plan to stay for no more than two weeks maximum though to stop this camp becoming like the previous Parliament Square democracy village which after a few weeks became mostly populated with drunks, drug users and vagrants. But we want as many people as possible to come and join us for the two weeks we will be there, so please come down sometime and help out. We need tarps to make shelter as we only have a few tents at the moment.

"mostly populated with drunks, drug users and vagrants."

you've just done a really good job of showing yourself up as elitist, judgemental scum and persuading people they should have nothing whatsoever to do with you

Calm down

Sure the wording should have been better, but to then go off on one calling them, "elitist, judgemental scum" is rather obscucre. The democracy village did become overrun by people who had nothing better to do than drink alcohol, shout all night and set fire to things. Thanks to obese Zionist commentators like you who would rather sit and write pernicious comments all day rather than getting outside and doing something more useful and supporting people.

Nah

The people there are well alright, what's being suggested is simply that a protest is not going to be effective if it just looks like a slum village of people drinking special brew. These things have their places, but in general drug addiction and excessive drinking are what drags this whole scene down at least on the squat side of things, so why not have a protest which is a bit more clean, green and beautiful rather than filled with the toxic habits imposed on us by the capitalist society?

The idea of it only lasting two weeks is that it doesn't become a tourist attraction or a joke, that it actually becomes significant. It's very easy to make comments from our armchair, but very difficult to sleep out in the streets on a freezing cold night like this surrounded by cops and listening to the incessant drone of Westminster traffic.

Respect to these people.

I would be surprised if this post was written by the peace strike people. I haven't heard them speak like this before! Quite the opposite infact...

choose me, no choose me Billy...nutter talking to nutter.

For example:
Isobel - "Thanks to obese Zionist commentators like you" - there's no indication that the comment came from a Zionist, in which case you're a sick puppy using that as an insult (& who knows, possibly an anti-Semite to boot - and yes, I know a Zionist and a Jew are not the same thing, and no, a criticiser of Zionism isn't necessarily racist - sigh, as this nutter speaks to future nutters!!).

Fuckin' ell, and that was before I followed the link to brainhaw.tv

Glad I don't live in London!!!

Peacestrike did not post this article.
The action was called the "White Flag Revolution" and was an on-going strike in Whitehall, outside the MOD and opposite Downing Street, to demand "TROOPS HOME".
We were able to keep the strike going for two weeks in Whitehall, despite temperatures plummeting to -10 degrees.
We only promote peaceful, non-confrontational protest.
