The email that closed the fitwatch site
fotdmike | 16.11.2010 13:07 | Repression
Appended is the text of the first email received by the registrant of the fitwatch.org.uk domain name and website notifying of its take-down.
One point that may be worth making is that the advice offered in the article that has been the excuse used by the police for closing down the fitwatch site was to 'suspects', not 'offenders'... a crucial difference, whereas this present police action (without a Court Order be it noted) suggests they've already decided that everyone attending the demonstration is guilty from the start.
Moreover, according to my understanding, "perverting the course of justice" consists in one of three acts:
* Fabricating or disposing of evidence
* Intimidating or threatening a witness or juror
* Intimidating or threatening a judge
(Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perverting_the_course_of_justice
which, in fairness, isn't always the most reliable reference)
Be that as it may, it seems to me that a far more sensible course for the police to have pursued would have been, in the first instance, to have approached the registrant direct (let's not pretend the police don't actually know who that person is, or how to contact them) with a request to remove the "offending" article.
That they chose not to do this and instead preferred to use the more heavy-handed approach of closing the entire site down suggests to me that they're more interested in attempting to neutralise fitwatch as "payback" for all the occasions that fitwatch have proven to be a thorn in their side.
And the question still remains of course, why was a Court Order not secured first... and indeed why did the hosting provider accede to the police request absent a Court Order?

The email contains false statements by the police

The police cannot confirm that. The most they are allowed to do is allege that a crime has been committed, after which the CPS will take a view on the matter. Confirming that a criminal activity has taken place is solely a matter for the courts, unless it is some "minor" matter like committing a crime in a car and the offender accepts their guilt.

An *acting* *detective inspector*. Such a high rank.
Anyway, no police officer can have the authority to close a web site. If a police officer does have authority to close a web site then that is a good definition of a police state.

It is almost like hearing a member of the BNP saying that a muslim is racist and that it is against the law.
If you are such a bunch of supporters of the law, why don't you start following it for once!
Then, perhaps, people might actually respect your viewpoints. But at the moment, it is a very me-me-me selfish, looking-after-myself display.

anarchists

Absolutely. People have a choice: to do a degree or not to do a degree. If you want it - pay for it. The reason most people do a degree is so that they can earn more money... so its an investment. Other people may figure they want to immediately start work - why should they pay taxes so that someone can do a degree and then earn more money than them?
The other reason people do a degree is purely for self-development (eg. some weird art degree). Fine. But don't expect a worker to pay for it for you - they probably want to spend that hard earned money towards a house for their family rather than you playing artist.
>>>> @Tom - when the cops themselves don't work within the law they're supposed to uphold who then are the real anarchists?
Thats somewhat a sweeping statement. Theres about 150,000 or so policeman in the UK i reckon. Of course things arnt going to be perfect - but that doesn't mean you completely write it off. I would bet that anarchists break the law on average-per-person many, many more times than the police do. So, to answer the question, anarchists are the real anarchists. One step below terrorists in my book as they just want to cause trouble for everyone else rather than do anything remotely constructive. Worried about the energy crisis? Fucking do an engineering degree and work towards a solution. Smoking pot and marching aint going to solve the energy problems.
>>>> You clearly have not seen us party and fuck.
You sound you are the only person who has ever partied. I bet your middle name is "crazy" as in Jeff "crazy" Thomas. Fine - if you want to party and fuck, do it. Just don't expect the hardworking tax payer to pay for it.

Err... where exactly did I write "payed". You idiot! You can't even read properly.
That was written by someone else! Lol! What a spectacular own goal!
Clearly, this shows that your level of intelligence is extremely low given that the only contribution you can make on the subject is based on your own incompetence!
This is what happens when you smoke too much cannabis and is probably the primary cause for not getting a job where a certain level of competence and accuracy is needed.
