This year the weather has been dreadful for shroom picking. In somerset; Quantocks and mendip hills. Tthe weather has failed any type of crop gathering. The weather went the right way at end of September, which triggered shrooms to appear for a brief while, then the weather changed back to sunny again. This stopped the liberty caps from coming out. I am now looking into growing some for the first time. Growing looks easy, and I will miss the trips up the fields to pick the beloved Liberty caps. But here is a smashing tip>. It is said, that liberty caps are hard to grow. The secret is Sheep Shit from shroom fields. Using Sheep droppings will allow Liberty cap production at home. Over the past 30 years I have come to a conclusion that only sheep shit in self managed high altitude areas make the liberty cap grow. This information is absolute home growers.
