Airports Suspicious Packages
Associated Press (2010-10-30 09:11:03)
In this frame grab taken from WABC-TV video, passengers disembark an Emirates airliner into an awaiting bus at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Friday Oct. 29, 2010, after the plane was escorted from the Canadian border to New York City by two military fighter jets. U.S. officials said there is no known threat associated with the plane, but it was being escorted to JFK as a precautionary move. Authorities on Friday were investigating whether suspicious packages shipped aboard cargo planes from Yemen to the U.S. were part of a terrorist plot. (AP Photo/WABC-TV) MANDATORY CREDIT

The Yemeni government expressed astonishment Thursday at reports linking it to two explosive packages found on cargo planes bound for the U.S.
Authorities in Britain and Dubai seized two explosive packages addressed to Chicago area synagogues on cargo jets. They said the packages originated from Yemen carried by Fedex and UPS parcel services…

The Yemeni government expressed astonishment ...

30.10.2010 11:06

To which there are several answers. Try two:

1. The action was taken by a group entirely separate from the Yemeni Government, so it is not entirely surprising they didn't know.

2. Let's assume they did know. Do you really think they're going to say, 'Oh, yes, we knew about it all the time but didn't think it worth bothering about', or, maybe, 'Of course we knew about it! So what are you going to do about it, punk?'

And talking of proof ...this article is headed 'No plane from Yemen'. And your evidence for that is?

I notice you quote the Taiwan News [and the link doesn't work] ... because, no doubt, Taiwan is a really authoritative source when it comes to Middle Eastern affairs.

Having a laugh?

30.10.2010 13:03

The exposives didn,t detonate. Terrorists wouldn,t plant explosives they wouldn,t want detonated, would they? Ummm? So who would gain from putting non-detonating explosives on board? Really strange, eh? Maybe the terrorists just thought they'de have a laugh.

Yemen - totally isolated from the world ... err, not.

30.10.2010 14:32

There may be no direct flights. But Yemen does not live in a world of its own. There are people, believe it or not, who live in Yemen and send parcels abroad - sometimes even to America.

The Yemeni Government may also have expressed its ignorance of the attack on the USS Cole. Still happened. And before inside job says that was an inside job, there is no shortage of suicide bombers as those who live [and have died] in Israel, Iraq and Afghanistan well know.

Of course, inside job is much better informed and much more widely travelled than all those foreign correspondents of the mainstream media, who are so easily hoodwinked by plots such as these. Oh, he isn't? What a surprise.

You are such an ill informed tit!! lol
One had a mobile phone on, the other a timer. Both were disabled by explosive experts.
You actually sound pissed off that they didnt blow up. I can't believe you are siding with terrorists on this. What are you? A terrorist?

I am the boss of MI-thix you know!

That parcel has almost certainly been mailed by agents working for the Americans.

One's thoughts have to go out to the poor sod who's just been stitched up by them.

Sir John Sawyers.

Really extremely odd.

30.10.2010 22:12

Suicide bombers regularly blow themselves up in Israel, Iraq, and so on, and no one on Indymedia says a word. If any bombs are directed at the West, the cry goes up: 'That parcel has almost certainly been mailed by agents working for the Americans'.

I suppose that some of our commentators expect that people in the - what shall we call it? - less well developed parts of the world do things like that as a matter of course. The thought that they might actually turn their attention elsewhere seems difficult for some people to grasp.

"Suicide bombers regularly blow themselves up in Israel, Iraq, and so on, and no one on Indymedia says a word. If any bombs are directed at the West, the cry goes up: 'That parcel has almost certainly been mailed by agents working for the Americans'."

But the Americans have done little else throughout the entire War on Terror!

The Americans NEED this war to survive.

The greatest threat to the United States...is peace!

Its exactly the same for Israel.

Sir John Sawyers

Dear Sir John

31.10.2010 06:41

May I suggest a little more common sense and a little less Orwell.

Now tell us exactly why the greatest threat to Israel is peace.

rationalisation

31.10.2010 10:09

I'm not interested in Israel or America or any other country.

What i'm interested in is that various brown coloured individuals like going on planes with explosives in their shoes/pants/rectum trying to blow it up.

If there was "White only" flights I would choose those as a preference
Why shouldn't I? The statistics indicate it is likely to be a safer flight without a terrorist looking individual on board.

Well, as a member of Her Majesty's Security & Intelligence Services I shall tell you. And of course it goes without saying that once I have told you this information I will have to kill you. Although due to the budget cuts my gun and explosive sovereign ring are being replaced with elastic bands and a "paper-clip" so I'm not exactly sure how dead you'll actually be once I've killed you! Just lay on the floor and hold your breath for a bit, that's all I need for my report!

You see, we in the Intelligence Community get to see the world as it is instead of the world as it seems. Where the public see a great fiery crescendo of booming raging truth and thunder, we see a little sweaty man on a squeaky bicycle peddling furiously.

Israel for the public is a great nation with a ninja-like security service, military forces staffed by "I can do it all on my own" Rambo's and Nuclear weapons in the hundred's.

We see a bloke in a dinghy picking his nose sitting on a cardboard cannon bellowing through a megaphone "I shall fire on all who come near"!!!

Terrorism to Israel is what wax is to a candle.

It preserves the flame by which it can navigate to its destination.

Sir John Sawyers.

Nice but meaning aphorisms

31.10.2010 11:23

'Terrorism to Israel is what wax is to a candle.'
'It preserves the flame by which it can navigate to its destination.'

Nice poetry. Lovely juggling with words. As an answer to the question? Complete bollocks.

Tell us, what is Israel's "destination" to which it is navigating? And why does Israel need terrorism, as implied by your first remark? Or is this just fashionable, meaningless bollocks?

"Tell us, what is Israel's "destination" to which it is navigating? And why does Israel need terrorism, as implied by your first remark?"

A moving train is always going somewhere! Only the passengers know where they are going. Perhaps you might like to go to Israel and ask somebody.

Why does Israel need terrorism?

That's like asking what 1+1 is after somebody has already told you the answer is 2!

Sir John Sawyers.

Compromise

31.10.2010 12:16

Astonishment, seriously, no. I don't want any bombs to maim nor kill anyone. It's just that I thought it odd, being as the supposed bombs were professionally constructed, that the terrorists didn,t/couldn,t explode them, it all seeming odd to me. Actually, and honestly, I want peace in the world, but it's a hugely forlorn hope hoping for peace. Many humans just aren't cut out to compromise re their worldly views, etc.

Dear SIr John

31.10.2010 13:17

You are obviously a high grade civil servant or a politician. In either case, your ability to talk portentously at length without saying anything at all of significance would be greatly admired in such circles. Your derangement on the subject of Israel would, alas, also go down well in such circles.

"Your derangement on the subject of Israel would, alas, also go down well in such circles."

Alas, It is more a case of well-founded suspicion. We who are close to the matter at hand tend to be in a better position to make these judgments.

Sir John Sawyers.

excerpt from: Obama: Synagogues targeted in possible terror plot

Ynetnews, 29 October 2010

US President Barack Obama said Friday that suspicious packages sent from Yemen to the US apparently contained explosives, and that they were intended for Jewish institutions in Chicago.

Obama said investigators had discovered a "credible terrorist threat" against the United States and that security would be increased in response to the incident for as long as it takes. He said the parcels were bound for "two places of Jewish worship in Chicago."
