Demo at Indonesian Embasy against Torture of West Papuans - 29th Oct

Free West Papua Campaign | 28.10.2010 12:51

In response to the horrific footage of Indonesian soldiers torturing West Papuans which has been shown across the world there will be a demonstration outside the Indonesian Embassy in London from 13.00 - 15.00 on Fri 29th October.

Message from Benny Wenda - West Papuan independence leader:

Many of you will already be aware of the horrific footage that was broadcast around the world last week, showing Indonesian troops torturing West Papuan civilians.
see for example:

For me this brought back painful memories of daily life under the Indonesian regime, seeing my uncles killed and my aunties raped by the Indonesian military, and my village bombed when I was just a child.

Hundreds of thousands of my people have perished since Indonesia took over our land, and every day I receive new reports of incidences of rape, torture, harrassment, murder and intimidation being carried out against my people.

Later today, thousands of people across West Papua will take to the streets calling for independence. No one can deny us our human right of self-determination.

In London, we will be holding a demonstration on Friday, and I would really appreciate as many of you as possible based in the UK to be able to attend at this critical time for West Papua. For too long now our voice has been silenced, but slowly the world is seeing the reality of life for us.

Demo details:

Date: Friday 29th October 2010
Time: 1300 - 1500
Place: outside the Indonesian Embassy, 38, Grosvenor Square, London, W1K 2HW

On behalf of all my people, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support for our struggle.

Wa wa wa
