Heavy suspense filled the greenhouse as spectators were glued to the action unfolding in-front of them as 'Juan Stan' took on 'the Mexican Day of the Dead' in the Sipson Conker Championship.
20 champions in their own right had taken the risk of swinging under the ropes of the Sipson conker ring, and given it their all for the treasured Golden Conker. Now in the dying moments of the final "Juan Stan's' conker hung by a thread. 'the Mexican Day of the Dead's' cheese-cutter had been too hot to handle.
"STAMPSIES" 'the Mexican Day of the Dead' screamed as she brought her gardening boot down onto the unsuspecting conker, after flying from the string.
Cheers erupted from the stadium. and the Golden Conker was awarded to the new Sipson Champ 2010.
On Sunday 14th of October the squatted Sipson garden 'Grow Heathrow' hosted an autumn celebration with chutney-making, fruit preserving and the Sipson Conker Championship.
Three weeks earlier gardeners and residents had scrumped the fruit trees around the Heathrow villages and even found Walnuts.
40 people attended with new families and residents coming down for the first time. And with a blue sky and Autumn sun, fun was had by everyone with soup for lunch and chutney to take home.
'Grow Heathrow' were in court in September, facing eviction from the Owners of Berkeley Nurseries, and are waiting for a new court date.
