“In George Osborne’s recent emergency budget, he pledged to chuck 360,000 people off of Disability Living Allowance by 2013 – which will plunge over a third of a million vulnerable people, most of whom will have mental health problems, into dire poverty.”
Mad Pride who have planned a Nationwide 24 Hour MEDICATION STRIKE! Today Tuesday 26th October 2010 at Speaker’s Corner Hyde Park

Today’s response by beneficiaries of mental health service in the UK to disengage with their service provider by not taking psychiatric medication for one day indicates that we do care for the most vulnerable population in society by giving them a voice.
But simultaneously reveals a two faced monster. The removal of housing benefits, the VAT rise et al, by an inevitable wholesale budget cuts by the Con-Lib government and a greedy and selfish environment where “spiffs and gamblers” keep their bonuses via loopholes in the law.
With increasing research identifying over prescribing psychiatric drugs without balancing equally with other services keep vulnerable people institutionalized unable to work, reducing them to severe mental health problems cases not in education, employment or training.
Its easy to see 360,000 people on Disability Living Allowance who ‘find it a terrible day to day struggle just to get by’ as “malingerers and scroungers “ while actively ignoring that most if not all of them are products of abuse.
Carers, the empathising community and people of good will know that their nationwide 24 hour protest are worth more than a generation’s pay and pension with the obvious DWP benefits.
