Massive anti-Afghan war demonstration London Sat 20th November

There will be a massive anti-Afghan war demonstration in central London on Saturday the 20th of November. The demonstration will assemble at Hyde Park near Marble Arch at 12noon and at 1pm will set off for Trafalgar Square. This demonstration is to demand the immediate return of all UK troops from Afghanistan. The government is currently spending 5 billion a year on that war while cutting services at home.

We will be saying money for welfare not for warefare. And demand that the government listens to the majority of the people who want an end to this war as soon as possible. More details of the demonstration are here:

Do you remember the tactics used during the first world war? You know, when the generals would send a fresh group of recruits out of the trenches to run at the enemy and get shot to pieces, then a few minutes later another group would jump out of the trenches with the same result. This happened again and again and again. It feels a lot like what StopTheWar have been doing for the last few years, the same tactics with diminishing numbers.

Last night i went to Downing street to the demonstration and listened for a few minutes to Lindsey German shrieking about 'building the biggest protest movement to stop the cuts and the war...see you on the next march'! Well seeing as 2003 got millions on to the streets, how will doing the same thing over and over and over again with diminishing numbers end the war or the cuts?

Look at the French and Greeks and consider whether they are more switched on when it comes to tactics..? Leading people holding placards on a guided walk around London does not seem all that effective.

You have been organising resistance against the war which is more than most others have been attempting to do. It just all feels a bit too repetitive, don't you think?

Well, come on all of you, big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
He's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Afghanistan
So put down your books and pick up a gun,
We're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afghanistan;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Come on Wall Street, don't be slow,
Why man, this is war a-go-go
There's plenty good money to be made
By supplying the Army with the tools of its trade,
But just hope and pray that if they drop the bomb,
They drop it on the Taliban.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afghanistan.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Well, come on generals, let's move fast;
Your big chance has come at last.
Now you can go out and get those reds
'Cause the only good muslim is the one that's dead
And you know that peace can only be won
When we've blown 'em all to kingdom come.

And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afghanistan;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

Come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Afghanistan.
Come on fathers, and don't hesitate
To send your sons off before it's too late.
And you can be the first ones in your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

And it's one, two, three
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afghanistan.
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.
