setting up communes in schools/colleges/unis

(A) student | 16.10.2010 20:11

I've been inspired by the recent wave of student protests and occupations in France, that I thought we need some of that over here - we need to start taking action!

I intend to set up a commune in my school on the basis of anarcho-communism. I don't know whether this will gather any support or not but its better than doing nothing. Nothing much has happened in terms of resistance to the cuts, while our comrades in France and Greece are taking to the streets, school children are occupying schools, and barricades are being formed. Why aren't we doing this? I hope the commune creates a higher level of social awareness, and also acts as an organisation for action against the cuts and specifically those relevant to students. I encourage all students despite whether your in school, university or college to take action.

Occupy and resist!

Fantastic news! Let us know how it goes - hopefully other schools will do the same. The very best of luck.

i urge you to rethink your behaviour.
its not unusual for people of your age to act like this, but by the time you hit 30-40 your outlook will be completely different

we don't need no education,

we don't need no thought control.

You intend to set up a commune in a state school?
The whole purpose of a state school is to indoctrinate the young into the left/right paradigm. So long as long as everyone accepts that they belong to (are the property of) society, they will accept people controlling them for profit/social good (delete as appropriate) as purveyed by the social dominant class, which is a glass celling.

All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

oh come on...

...give the kid a break. Why kill and sign of initiative before it gets going?
Good luck with the commune!

of anarchist's discouraging comments.

Every anarchist I've ever met operates to some extent within existing social structures. There's no reason at all why you shouldn't start organising along these lines within an existing state institution. Who knows - maybe your activities will lead to a full-blown revolution in FCH. Unless the school has changed very much in recent years, it's well on the way to anarchy already.

Good luck!

Finchley Catholic High?!

ok, good luck to you, but can I suggest you start by dropping the name of the school! 'Anarchy at Finchley Catholic High' sounds like a bunch of rich tossers playing about with a mini revolution, before stepping into Mummy and Daddy's wealth and a place in parliament, yah. And ignore that comment about society. Society is a beautiful thing, born of sharing, responsibility and love, and completely fucked over by State. Take a State school and reclaim society - that's revolution!

What is a commune?

17.10.2010 20:31

Sounds like a good thing you have there, but I'm not really sure what a "commune" is - I thought it was something like a shared house where people share the responsibilities equally? How does that apply to a school setting?

i or we?

"i intend to set up a commune" - wouldn't a commune require more than just one person? hope you have some buddies with you, and hope they don't mind too much you speaking for them...

plus one on ignoring the discouraging comments...

I think they're doing it at their own school, why would they try to hide the name of their school or "take a state school" rather than their own one? And last time I looked a boy's grammar school was still a state school so how about giving them some support rather than being a massive elitist douche about it?
