Animal Rights Zone hits a milestone.

RogerYates | 10.10.2010 09:02 | Animal Liberation | World

In just ten short months, Animal Rights Zone has grown from an initial membership of two, to 1000 committed members, all working together to create a vegan world.

There is a revolution underway in the world today, a peaceful revolution springing up on every continent on the planet. ARZone.ning.com is proud to announce its reaching a milestone in the service of that revolution.

Founding director Carolyn Bailey says “The response to the site has been tremendous, now, with 1000 members across the world, the work being done by hard working people has been more fulfilling than I could have imagined.”

By providing a space for a variety of blog posts, forum discussions, notes, videos and more, ARZone fosters a sense of community among its members. Through live online chats with a diversity of people who work both within and outside of the animal advocacy community, ARZone supports rational discourse and intelligent dialogue about the most pressing issues facing us today.

Guests have included such distinguished members of the animal advocacy movement as Capt. Paul Watson, Gary L. Francione, Melanie Joy, Ronnie Lee, Bruce Friedrich, Pete Bethune and many more. Upcoming scheduled guests include Bob Linden of Go Vegan Radio and Earthlings director Shaun Monson.

ARZone is dedicated to seeing an end to the violence committed against all others, with a particular focus on nonhuman animals. ARZone is opposed to speciesism, and all other “isms” that seek to divide rather than unite. ARZone is committed to non-violence, recognition of and respect for basic rights, and ending the commodification of all sentient beings, nonhuman as well as human.

Using the power of online worldwide connectivity and enlisting the help and input of some of the world’s most committed activists, ARZone’s 1000 members are working towards the day when the most common answer to the question “Do you know what a vegan is?” will be: “Of course I do, I am vegan!”

ARZone publishes transcripts of their guest "chats" on their main site:  http://arzone.ning.com/

Clarification.

10.10.2010 09:33

Hi,

ARZone does not just invite guests it agrees with, in fact, quite the reverse. For example, representatives of animal welfare groups such as PETA have been on.

Currently there are negotiations to get a prominent vivisector as a guest.

involved with this American organisation for single issue nutters. Your fucking weird people most likely middle class and lonely with no politics. The type of people who hate Butchers but respect the Military, confused and out of touch with reality. Did you get no love from Mummy and Daddy? Tut Tut.......

@narchist

Alliance Politics.

11.10.2010 08:16

There are calls of late - and for many years in fact - for members of the animal advocacy movement to engage in "alliance politics" and precisely because the demographics of the movement tend to be white and middle class. Politically, the "movement" spans the whole spectrum.

I know few animal advocates who are opposed to this idea of alliance politics - but that does not mean it is easy. People in other justice movements are just as saturated in speciesist norms and values as everyone else. This is a major barrier to dialogue.

From an anarchist pov the animal advocacy movement may well seem bourgeois and disconnected: rights-based animal advocacy is a liberal idea after all, built on basic principles expressed in human rights thought. Some feminists - perhaps especially ecofeminists - regard rights-based animal advocacy as patriarchal.

There is clearly work to be done if "alliance politics" is going to move forward as an idea.

Realist

@narchist you are a tool...

14.10.2010 23:57

Capt. Paul Watson has never murdered anyone let alone "foreigners" as you put it. He's not a military/army Captain you idiot but Captain as in Captain of a ship. The ships he commands are all vegan run.

How stupid do you look?
