Newport Passport Office - Mass Meeting against Job Cuts

Adam Johannes | 08.10.2010 20:31 | Workers' Movements

Mass meeting against closure and jobs cuts Monday 11th October, Kings Hotel, Newport at 12 noon.

Newport passport office to close according to the PCS with 300 jobs to go. This means people from South Wales and SW England will have to go to London or Liverpool if they need to attend an office:

There is a mass meeting organised by the PCS members who will lose their jobs on Monday in Newport at the Kings Hotel at High Noon. The meeting is open to EVERYONE, if you are able to please attend and show support for these workers. We need community wide mobilisation to defend jobs and services!

Solidarity Forever!

We don't need passports. Nobody is illegal! Let 'em in!

No Borders!

While I agree that it would be better to not have to use passports, if you think that the government getting away with sacking 300 workers will somehow result in 'no borders' or contribute in anyway to a world without them then you are very silly. In fact, if the governmetn gets away with carrying out huge cuts in public services and jobs it is likely to become more authoritarian and nasty, in order to win support for their cuts agenda they aer also likely to employ divide and rule tactics such as racism

We're keeping passports, borders and border control, so fuck off with your bullshit.

Yeah nice. Someone says something you disagree with - but why bother to use rational argument when you can just spew bile?

Sure, passports are a mechanism of control not a public service, /but/ in a society where passports are required for free movement, making people go all the way to London or Liverpool to get one is pretty shit.

After all, they may be cutting the jobs of the people dishing out the passports, but you can bet they won't be cutting the jobs of the people checking them at the borders!

Would you really be doing the job if you didn't believe in it?

people will start turning against border controls if they start to affect them in a negative way. The harder it is to get a passport the less people will like the border control industry. Close the place sack the lot of them, make the ordinary middle class jump through hoops to stay in the system.

great video - shows why people support a system that is wrong.
