SMASH THE FUR TRADE!

ACTIVISTS TAKE THE FIGHT TO BEYOND RETRO HQ

Activists arrived at 8am this morning to greet the directors and staff at the international Head Office of Beyond Retro due to their ongoing sales of real fur in all their shops and bring the fight to those who have the power to make changes within the company.

Upon arrival, campaigners tried to speak to management however nobody was apparently available, so chants begun and leaflets were placed all over the building so other companies knew about Beyond Retro and their involvement in fur trade. Activists also chanted loudly inside the BR business unit.

Following much support from locals and other businesses, the demo moved to the the warehouse Beyond Retro run at the site. Workers and management soon wiped the smiles off their faces when they released that we were not simply there for a joke, but are serious about stopping the company selling real fur. The whole warehouse was soon vacated by staff as ongoing chants continued to remind them of the trade they are a part of.

Next of all, campaigners headed into Central London to Beyond Retro's store in Soho (58-59 Great Marlborough Street, W1F 7JY // Tel: 020 7434 1406) to inform their customers about the suffering involved in the fur trade. The store attempted to drown out chanting by turning up music in the shop, however when they realised this would make no difference just hid away in the basement. Many potential customers showed support, whilst others refused to shop with Beyond Retro following discussing the matter with activists.

Noble Furs (3 New Burlington Place, London, W1S 2HR //
Tel: 020 7734 6394) is one of the last furriers in London and are currently losing a lot of trade, with the owner having to found non-fur sister companies in order to keep the business functioning. They have not had any activist attention in a number of years, so our visit was certainly overdue. Chants of "Close Down Noble Furs" barraged the shop front, with neighbouring companies comign out to give support to the protest. Martin Noble could be seen scurrying around in the back room of the furriers, not knowing how to take the demo.

After a while, we headed back to Beyond Retro in Soho and leafleted all their customers for over four hours until the store closed at 7.30pm. Over 30 customers turned away following being informed about the sickening trade BR are involved in.

The pressure is mounting on Beyond Retro to go fur-free, with an increase in not only protests, but public support and customers turning away, leaving the company with less trade. We understand they are due to issue some form of website statement this week, which is a clear demonstration that they are being forced to act. We are not sure what the statement will contain, however in order for the demo's and actions to stop we request a full fur-free policy.
