NETCU to close !

Good News Week! | 29.09.2010 18:52 | Animal Liberation | Public sector cuts | Repression | Cambridge

In news about cuts all activist can support – NETCU staff have all been laid off by Cambridge Police!

Police sources confirm that all NETCU staff have been served their notice and the unit will close completely in the new year.

Always controversial NETCU have been exposed as oppressive and biased numerous time On their website they report arrests of animal rights activists and details of prison sentences handed out. Although they do not mention people who are not charged when falsely arrested, they conveniently “forget” to mention when people are no longer under investigation! Using words such as “extremist” to describe individual activists is another rather inappropriate abuse of their position. Newspaper reports do indeed seem to have been using this site as a reference and have almost regurgitated NETCU’s briefings. Also concern that the police are blatantly supporting the vivisection industry beyond their remit of upholding the law is the links page.
BAD NEWS
Despite the cost and lack of accountability disgraced top cop Yates of the Yard is attempting to absorb the NETCU role into the Met Police – hardly a paragon of human rights with G20 and Stockwell to its name!
WE CAN STOP HIM!
The Met likes to think it can do as it likes – that it can get away with anything it likes – well it Can’t – it answers to the MPA and the London Mayor! Lets see what they think of this proposal.

Suggested Letter:-

Dear Ms Jones,

You will be aware that the MPA is being asked to absorb the functions of the discredited and repressive group, NETCU. Can you confirm that the Met Police does not and will not support this proposal and that the MPA does not regard that there is a need for a Police agency dedicated to prosecuting protestors for exercising their democratic rights?
I await your early response,

Together we can ensure that NETCU is closed for good!

Hopefully some of them will be on the dole now. Maybe lose their homes and partners, maybe top themselves. We can but hope.

What will happen to the database of images, gossip and fibs?

Is it stored at the National Public Order Intelligence Unit? (NPIOU)

Is it true?

"Cambridgeshire Police are making savings of £1.2m. There have been 24 redundancies affecting police support staff rather than officers, a recruitment freeze is in place and 50-60 vacancies have been identified that will not be filled."
