National Eviction Team & Scottish Coal Visit Happendon Wood Action Camp For Nose

THWAC | 27.09.2010 18:37

As day 15 of the Happendon Wood Action Camp dawned, two members of the National Eviction Team and three Scottish Coal employees came for a snoop around.

At around 9.00am they came onto site and started taking pictures of people and structures. Martin Leyshon, head of the National Eviction Team seemed rather disappointed when he wasn't recognised. "Obviously new on the block, are you?" he said.

After being followed by inhabitants of the camp and an unsuccessful attempt to break into the communal living space, they branded it a "pissy little camp", jumped into the same security van and drove off.

So far there has been no sign of eviction papers, but Scottish Coal's intentions are clear.

Just one mile away from Mainshill Open-cast Site, The Happendon Wood Action Camp (THWAC) is a base for community engagement and direct action in the Douglas Valley, South Lanarkshire. Come and help us defend the wood from destruction by Scottish Coal, and fight the devastation caused by their relentless exploitation of this beautiful place.

Our first Action Gathering is this weekend - 1st - 4th of October. Hope to see you there!
