not a holocaust

18.09.2010 18:52

it's just f***ing silly to call this a holocaust. Using emotive words steeped in deep sensitivity of events pertaining to mass murder is both reckless and abit stupid. Apart from anything else, it's just inaccurate terminology. Perhaps Latuff should in future get some 2nd opinions before you scribing the captions

definition of the word 'holocaust':
1. a great or complete devastation or destruction, esp. by fire.
2. a sacrifice completely consumed by fire; burnt offering.
3. (usually initial capital letter) the systematic mass slaughter of European Jews in Nazi concentration camps during World War II (usually prec. by the).
4. any mass slaughter or reckless destruction of life.

4. any mass slaughter OR reckless destruction of life.

Ok, this is not The Holocaust, given, but in the actual holocaust gypys and jews were both persecuted, and there are many links between our communities.

It's an attempt to destroy a way of life, can we agree to call it Cultural_genocide [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_genocide] and get on with agreeing that it should stop?

Have people been killed?

Sarkozy is a bigoted piece of shit but I don't think this could be described as a holocaust either, seeing as no-one has died. Maybe there are parallels with the Nazi party in the 1930s before they came to power and started killing people, but holocaust isn't really the right word. Maybe there is a translation problem?

I thought the Roma were EU citizens anyway, so don't they have a right to live wherever they want in Europe? Or are they from some East European country that isn't a full member of the EU yet?

Holocaust is the wrong word but there is a massive parallel with the mass expulsions/forced deportations carried out by the Nazis. This comparison is being used extensively in France and massively touching sensitivities about collaboration.

AS he is the paid propagandist for Holocaust deniers.
Latuf is happy to support and be paid by the Iranian regime that denies the real holocaust ever happened. He is therefore happy to produce images like this that reduce the reality of the real holocaust.
the disgrace of Sarkozy's actions is by sending the Roam back to the lands where they were born he is sending them to nations that treat Roma as second class citizens and deny their basic human rights.
The real scandal here is that Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria etc. are allowed to do so unchallenged.
