Happendon Wood Update - day six
THWAC | 17.09.2010 11:54 | Ecology
The newly occupied Happendon Wood Action Camp is still going strong on day six. After a police inspector and a superintendent visited the site on Tuesday and walked around site police have limited their response to regular drive pasts. There has still been no contact from Scottish Coal or Douglas and Angus estates, who lease the land.
Building has continued on the communal building. Benches are now being put in to the down stairs, the burner has been installed, the kitchen has worktops and a sink, the filling cabinets used as food storage have been decorated and the windows and doors will soon be installed. Almost everything used on the building has been reclaimed from land fill or bought second hand, even the nails.
Tree defences are coming along nicely, with platforms, walk-ways and nets filling the tree tops. The water proof info point at the front of site has also been finished, with benches and a bookshelf.
Numbers on site are increasing, but could still do with more! Even if you can only manage a few days, it would be wonderful to see new faces. The camp is holding it's first gathering on the weekend of the 1st to the 4th of October. We are asking for people to come along and visit the action camp and take part in the growing campaign against coal exploitation in the Douglas Valley. More information can be found on our website:
