There is a funny smell in Brighton.

The Eye sees what is happening in the city of Brighton and Hove. The ears smell malodour of corruption and malfeasance in the conduct of the local council.
Has anyone noticed a very pungent aroma in the vicinty of Brighton? An unpleasant odour and it comes from a couple of sources, one of which is Brighton and Hove Council Offices.
The council is involved in very dodgy deals and activities. Planning permissions are frequently given for large corporations eg Tesco by an abuse of process. Other deals done behind the scenes. Find a decision that looks a bit odd and there will be a stench surrounding it.
Brighton and Hove City Council have their own Masonic Lodge. This is Brighton and Hove Civi Lodge, number 5223. It meets in the Masonic Centre, Queens Road on a Monday evening.
Why does the council need its own Lodge?
Ask to see the Register of Interests for the councillors and you are referred to an online "Register" on the council website. Try to see the hard copy of the Register of Interests and you are faced with gross obstruction from those in the so called "Democratic Services".
Should they not succeed in putting you off, then you are made to examine the Register in a small room with someone sitting 3 feet from you and watching your every move. When you want to make notes, she is examining what you write (or trying to). The whole process involves intimidation and harassment. There is a right for pulic access to any and every register of interests. The council does its utmost to deny this right.
Could the reason for this be the fact that there is a great difference between the online versions and the hard copies? The reason given is that for "security reasons" property addresses are not shown online. This extends to ALL properties, property businesses, property developments and property holdings of the councillors. This cannot be either justified, or legal.
A number of the councillors have property interests by way of property businesses (eg lettings) property companies and developments and property holdings. These can only be accessed by looking at the hard copy of the register, they are absent from the online version. One councillor in particular had a vast number of property holdings.
Next time you notice something doesn't look quite right about a decision for a planning application it could be worth looking to see if the parties and properties are connected to Brighton and Hove City Council or the Freemasons.

Lots of assuming, supposing and nudge-nudge wink-wink pointing. But you havnt actually accused anyone of doing anything!!!!
I accept that some councillors will be crooked. In the same way, I accept some benefit claimants will be crooked. So what. Unless you can provide evidence, you arnt saying anything useless. You might as well say, the sun rises and sets.
I know some freemasons. Most of the public really don't have any clue what it is about, putting all their "knowledge" from what they've read in a Dan Brown novel. Clueless.
Maybe if you spent a bit more time working and less time smelling around the council offices, you wouldn't have to worry about stuff.
