Oxford Peace Plaque

P (via Imc vol - P) | 15.09.2010 20:04 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Terror War | Oxford

On Tuesday 21 September 2010 a peace Plaque will be unveiled in Bonn Square, Oxford.

It says ´PEACE. TO HONOUR THOSE WHO SEEK ANOTHER PATH IN PLACE OF VIOLENCE AND WAR´. This remembers those who oppose dubious wars. The war on Iraq and the great effort and sacrifice by a lot of people in Oxford to oppose it was the stimulus for the plaque idea. If you were one of those this is for you.

I remember

Yup, I remember the night the Iraq invasion began. We pretty much shut down the town centre to traffic for a couple of hours. Police batted a few people, arrested a few, but they did their utmost not to arrest people (would have looked bad on the news, innit). Not bad for something hastily organised.... didn't stop the war, but it was a positive use of our anger. Glad to see something to record it happening.
