Bristol SWP Public Rally- Can Marxism Make Sense of a World in Turmoil?

POUM | 07.09.2010 12:22

19 October 730pm Malcolm X Centre, City Road
We live in a world in turmoil. Britain is thesixth richest country in the
world, yet we have a Con-Dem government that is slashing the welfare state,
putting millions on the dole and making the very poorest people in society pay for a crisis they didn’t create.
How is it possible in a world of plenty that poverty, famine and disease destroy the lives of millions?
Why are the US and Britain involved in the brutal
imperialist occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq? 170 years ago, Karl Marx
began to try to explain how capitalism works. He tried to answer why the system has the potential to produce enough to satisfy everyone, but fails to do so as profit is always put before need.
Marx didn’t just write about the problems the poor and working class faced – he was involved in the day to day struggles to change the world he lived in.
Two centuries later, is Marxism still relevant? Can it explain why the system
periodically goes into crisis?
Is the working class still the gravedigger of capitalism?
Is revolution still possible in the modern world?
Come along and join the debate – Can Marxism make
sense of a world in turmoil?
