Following the video we put out about the EDL in Bradford we wanted to put out some more footage of one of the most interesting aspects of the EDL, their one Muslim supporter (or mascot), Abdul. On the day he was surrounded by video cameras before the demonstration and the media were very encouraged to interview him whilst we were inside the EDL’s cordon.

This footage is a collection of Abdul’s comments before the demonstration started, we have decided no to edit it too extensively, in order to try and give you a better idea of Abdul on the day, the fact that it includes some repetition, perhaps, shows the limitations of Abdul’s arguments. It is about 12 minutes long but certainly worth the patience.

Included is footage of Abdul talking with known fascists who had turned up for the EDL demonstration however Abdul’s definition of racism (anyone who shakes his hand cannot be racist) prevents him from acknowledging racists, even if they have a swastika tattooed on their chest.

The reaction of other Muslims to Abdul’s presence was far from welcoming (as you would imagine) as local people point out to him- “their using you!” but Abdul’s quest carries on and the EDL continue to point to him as proof that they are not racist.

EDL poster-boy Abdul Hussain is a Glasgow Rangers fan, filmed here at an EDL demo, singing sectarian hate songs which celebrate knee-capping and beating Taigs (meaning Catholics). Just as Islamophobic bigotry assumes all Muslims are terrorists, sectarian bigotry assumes all Catholics are Fenians and Provos (pro-IRA), and both are as stupid as black-power bigots who assume all white people must be racist because a few nutters join groups like the BNP and KKK. I despise the IRA, but sectarian hatred is disgusting, no matter where or who it comes from.

The EDL has over 25,000 supporters on Facebook, but only THREE non-white people regularly attend EDL protests. The 1st (Guramit Singh) is a proven racist. The 2nd (Joel Titus) says he's anti-BNP but has been filmed travelling to EDL demos with BNP activist Chris Renton (let's just say Joel seems VERY confused). The 3rd (Abdul Hussain) is a vicious bigot. In contrast, hundreds of EDL supporters show themselves on You Tube and Facebook to be BNP supporters and/or either Nazis or friends of Nazis, while the Anti-Fascist "1 Million United" group has over 730,000 supporters on Facebook.

Protesting against Islamic extremism is not fascism or racism! You people never ever protest against Islamic extremism while instead choose to attack anyone who does. All the while the muslim extremists are laughing because you are doing their job for them by attacking any opposition to them.

Id imagine they're probably more pleased that you are helping them to divide people along lines of religion, rather than our attempts to undermine the basis of their recruitment by involving people in class issues that cut across religions and ethnicity.
