The BIG BLAIR BOOK LAUNCH PARTY is still on on Wednesday evening at Tate Modern

Blair is pulling out of his book signing at Waterstones on Wednesday after realising how popular he is in Dublin. However this is just a blind – the BIG BLAIR BOOK LAUNCH PARTY is still on on Wednesday evening at Tate Modern – everyone’s invited

Following this revelation that the Blair Book party was set for Tate Modern on Wednesday night Ian Bone contacted Andrew Burgin of the STWC about the disgusting sight of Blair and cronies like Mandelson swigging fine champagne as millions have died. Here’s the exchange Andrew has had with Tate Modern. STWC are calling for protests at Tate Modern from 5.30pm and will be walking the galleries beforehand in Blair masks:

Thanks for that Helen,

I see your guidelines say ‘our ability to maintain a strong relationship of trust with our public is critical..’ Yet you see no problem in hosting an event for a man who has been responsible for the deaths of 100,000′s of innocent people. A man who has broken his relationship of trust with the people of this country by lying and taking Britain into an illegal war in Iraq. The fact that you seek to disassociate the Tate from this event by the sleight of hand you use in your letter is dishonorable.
We will hold a protest at the Tate on Wednesday.

yours

Dear Andrew
Further to your call earlier today I can confirm that Tate is not staging a launch for Tony Blair’s new book. Tate’s galleries are available for hire by companies. These events are private and details are confidential.

What about the Afghan war?

What about the Afghan war? Everyone is going on about the Iraq war, but what about the Afghan war? Why is no one protesting about that?

Remember the Afghan war

Odd, to say the least.

"What about the Afghan war? Everyone is going on about the Iraq war, but what about the Afghan war? Why is no one protesting about that?"

Good question.

Perhaps not leaving everything to the STWC might be a good idea?

We need another, more legitimate, less political movement.

Subject: Tony Blair book launch: new venue

Sadly Tony Blair has now joined General Than Shwe, Radovan Karadzic, Osama Bin Laden and George W Bush in turning down invitations to sign copies of their memoirs at Waterstones. Tony says that he doesn't want to inconvenience the police because of predicted protests outside the shop. But all is not lost as he will be hosting a gathering of war criminals at the Tate Modern on the evening of Wednesday 8 September. Authors AL Kennedy and Iain Banks, composer Michael Nyman, journalist John Pilger and ex-SAS Trooper, Ben Griffin called for the book launch to be cancelled and it is upsetting that they got their way. We now hear that Brian Eno, David, Gentleman, Katherine Hamnett, Cat Phillips and other prominent figures from the Arts have expressed their outrage that the Tate Modern is now being used to promote Blair's memoirs. Please do not let these people have a second victory and come to the Tate Modern at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 8 September. There may be protestors outside ( and inside) dressed up in Blair masks, wearing outrageous costumery, banging on drums and the like. Please ignore them and show your support for Tony Blair. ('A Journey' has now been slashed to 50% RRP and can be found in bookshops under 'Crime')

"We dont need a less political protest. We need to shove the book down his lying fucking neck.'

What we need is a movement that doesn't spend its entire time promoting Blair. But hunting the fucker down and taking Direct Action.

The STWC aren't taking direct action. They just don't get that Tony Blair feeds from the publicity they are giving him. The STWC are helping Tony Blair sell his fucking book by giving him the opportunity to sell it by using news organisations to advertise it.

The STWC are thick as shit!

Direct Action. Take a direct route into the Tate, pull off a distraction and then arrest and deal with Tony Blair on the spot.

If in 30 years Tony Blair dies peacefully in his sleep, completely happy wealthy and comfortable, having led a completely risk free life. The fucking STWC will still be there to whining about it.

There are some occasions when direct intervention is called for. Not standing around aimlessly like a cunt waiving a stick about. We need the Bisley boys.

People are protesting about the war on Afghanistan!

I never fail to mention both Afghanistan and Iraq. If you have access to facebook (I know it's evil) please check out the group that started recent media coverage about Tony's book, "Subversively move Tony Blair's memoirs to the crime section in bookshops". You will see plenty of us mentioning Afghanistan and Iraq. It is even written on one of the signs I put up in a Waterstones (photos in album on group's page, not sure how to add it here or I would) and you'll see the note I left on the FB group advertising 'News from Nowhere' bookshop has a quote from a member of staff.. she lists both the invasion of Afghanistan and that of Iraq as reasons why they don't want to stock his book in their shop.

Tate has a history of artistic protest ...

e.g. "State Britain".
Let's maintain that tradition.

Artistic protests will drive home the point that corporate shindigs are not Tate's stated misssion.
