Mass immigrants grave in greek borders at Evros

Merrybabe's Collective | 10.08.2010 16:56 | Migration | World

It is believed that between 150 and 200 corpses have been buried in the mass grave.

Evros is a river and it is the natural border with Turkey in the north-east of Greece. Lots of immigrants, while they are trying to get into Europe, they are coming through Evros river. There, because Greece and Turkey are like enemies, we have lots of mines so lots of immigrants are getting killed while they try to enter.
The river of Evros is not very friendly and therefore, while they are trying to swim across, they are getting drowned. It is believed that between 150 and 200 corpses have been buried in the mass grave and
although most of them are Muslims, because most of them are  from Afghanistan and Iraq, they don’t get buried  properly and only a sign writing “mass grave of illegal immigrants ” is there plus the sign is full of bullets
So this is Greece, this is European Union, this is capitalism, this is a war and
we are gonna get revenge.

It might surprise you to know that thousands of British citizens are buried in mass paupers graves each and every week, every month and every year.

"So this is Greece, this is European Union, this is capitalism, this is a war and we are gonna get revenge."

No, this is most human cultures throughout most of human history. By and large the humans of one place, most of the time, are not particularly helpful to other humans trying to migrate in.

The modern state isn't to blame. Been going on from the beginning. In fact, one could argue that it is only from the modern state period that we have a significant number of cases where immigration welcomed. Yes we do have examples form before, refugee peoples being we;comed, but comparatively rarely.

So not specififcally Greece.
Not specifically European Union (which is after all just a few years old)
Not capitalism since going on from long before AND some of our modern examples of immigration welcomed were probably due to capitalist systems wanting more labor to exploit.

Like I said, bad, but if we want to understand the causes we will need to delve deeper inot what makes us humans.

Most victims die from drowning when crossing the evros river.
Others die when crossing the minefields at the border between turkey and greece.
The undertaker receives 700,- € for every body he buries like this.
