Derby Carnival brought a taste of the Afro- Caribbean to the City of Derby.


Derby Carnival brought a taste of the Afro- Caribbean to the City of Derby. Live music, playing soca reggae, steelpan, with mass costume adding the colour will storm the city of Derby on the 17th and 18th of July 2010.

Derby Carnival is one of the best free festival events in the Derby which allows people from all walks of life and backgrounds take to the streets and join the parade dancing and singing to the music.

Organisers putting the finishing touches to the vibrant costumes, colourful floats and entertainment line up for this year's event - part of the city's Summer Rhythms 2010 festival.

Since 1975, the Derby Caribbean Carnival been going from strength to strength and this year begins on Saturday 17th July where it takes to the streets of Derby with their famous Procession Day. Start at Pear Tree School.

The theme for this year's carnival is Heroes and Champions - inspired by the Cultural Olympiad and by cultural heroes from Martin Luther King to Nelson Mandela.

Derby Caribbean Carnival (DCC) is run by the Derby West Indian Community Association (DWICA), and has been running since 1975.

The Nottingham Afro-Carribean Carnival will be held on 14 - 15th August on the Forest Ground.

Parade will be on Sunday. It will make its way from Friar Lane at 2pm through the Market Square on to Derby Road to the Stage Show on the Forest Recreation Ground.
