A protest related to the Charlene Downes case is bound to provoke very strong feelings, which is exactly why the EDL chose this issue, as an attempt to provoke. If anyone bothers to check the facts a child called Charlene Downes disappeared, it's alleged she was murdered by pedos, but the case is (surprise surprise) considerably less straightforward than the EDL's opportunist propaganda tries to imply. A takeaway owner in Blackpool was reported to police as having confessed to killing her after making incredibly tasteless and offensive jokes about having had sexually abused her, killed her, and fed her body into a meat processing machine. There is NO physical evidence is this case and a "confession" of this nature, no matter how offensive, is no more proof of actual guilt than the "evidence" Colin Stagg was encouraged to give to an undercover police plant about the death of Rachel Nickell - and, as we all know, Colin Stagg was proven to have been innocent.

In this case the police bugged the suspect, recorded hundreds of hours of speech, but the recordings were of such poor quality that even forensic speech scientists who analysed the evidence couldn't agree with the cops who'd recorded the conversations what the recordings actually said - and, to cap it all, it turns out the guy who gave the cops the original tip-off was an ex-crim with a long record for extreme dubiousness... therefore, no conviction. Our sympathies go out to the girl's family for this terribly tragegy, but their anger is being cynically EXPLOITED by the EDL

The EDL have latched on to this case for one reason and one reason only - because the suspect was a MUSLIM. It would be the mother of all understatements to say that the football thugs, BNP activists, closet Nazis and career-hooligans of the EDL have absolutely no experience that's even remotely relevant to the subtleties and complexities of forensic speech analysis, and that the EDL"s only knowledge of legal process is derived from they times they themselves have been prosecuted and jailed for savage violence of eg - the sort that saw EDL organiser Jeff Marsh jailed twice for STABBING rival football fans.

Some information from a Blackpool resident for both the EDL and their opponents:

1) The main 'evidence' in the murder case came from a highly unreliable police informant with a grudge against Albattikhi who attempted to get the kebab shop owner (who knew the missing girl) to go along with sick jokes that he had killed and cooked the girl. There was no pro-muslim conspiracy as to why the trial collapsed - simply incompetent police work, a complete lack of solid evidence and the institutional racism of the cops. Sad to see the EDL exploiting Charlene's parents for their cause.

2) One result of the case was seismic levels of unrest in local social workers and CCTV going up in nearby alleyways as it became apparent that takeaway owners in that area were regularly exploiting underage girls for sex. Anti-fascists should remember that dodgy paedophile twats come in every colour and creed.
