Lem Lem Hussein Abdu, a sixty year old Eritrean woman who has lived in Sheffield since 2007, is threathened with deportation to Ethiopia on Wednesday 21st July. Lem Lem fled Eritrea in 1978; her entire family was killed when Ethiopian forces burned down her village. She went to Saudi Arabia, where she worked in service, and in 2007 her employers visited London and abandoned her there. She has been refused asylum ever since and is supported by ASSIST. She is currently being held at Yarls Wood Immigration Removal Centre in Bedfordshire. Her many friends and acquaintances from the English classes and various community groups which she regularly attends are obviously extremely concerned for her well being.
