Last year 9 members of Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice had a peer-reviewed paper 'Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe' published in The Open Chemical Physics Journal. According to one of the scientists involved Professor Steven E Jones "in short, the paper explodes the official story that 'no evidence' exists for explosive/pyrotechnic materials in the WTC buildings." The US portrays itself as indestructible and in a sense ruler of the world. Although many people outwardly do not like this perception, inwardly it does provide people with a sense of comfort and stability. Maybe a central point by which to measure what goes on around them and the rest of the world. What happened during the 9/11 attacks showed people that there is no such thing as "indestructible". People all around the world felt vulnerable (love or hate the US) the all powerful superstate showed it too has weakness.

So how does this relate to conspiracy theory?

Cognitive dissonance. Something so terrible happens that you cannot accept the outcome. If your world is so shaken you will look for evidence to disprove reality. Basically in terms of 9/11, evidence that the US self-flagellated. From the point of view of the 9/11 conspiracy theorist, it is far better flagellation occurred, rather than a country as powerful as the US be severely wounded by a small group of highly skilled foreigners.

So does this mean all conspiracy is nonsense?

No, not at all. History has proven many underhanded deeds have taken place. History too will finally prove whether 9/11 was an inside job.

A good example of misplaced conspiracy goes back to the great fire of London. In this instance foreigners were blamed for starting the fire. And indeed, so strong was the public outcry against foreigners that one man was executed and blamed for starting the fire. For many hundreds of years there was a plaque attached to the monument [of the fire] condemning foreign people for burning down London. Only recent history accepts the fire was caused by a careless baker.
