UN International Day Against Drugs

Foundation for a Drug Free World Supporting the UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the Tampa Bay Area

Clearwater Beach, Florida – June 26th 2010. In commemoration of the June 26th United Nations' “International day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, volunteers from the Foundation for a Drug Free World spread the word on the Truth about Drugs message to Tampa Bay. Passing out booklets not only to individual people but also getting local businesses to proudly do so as well.
The Foundation makes its “Truth About Drugs” series of booklets available to non-profit organizations free of charge. “When the facts are not known it’s hard to make the right decision about anything. That’s why when you give people straight, factual information about drugs it makes them able to make the right decision - to say no” said Julieta Santagostino, Director of the Foundation for a Drug Free World, Florida Chapter. As a commemoration for the Day the Foundation received a Proclamation from the Mayor of Tampa, Pam Iorio, proclaiming June 26, 2010 as, “Say No To Drugs - Say Yes to Life Day” in the City of Tampa.
Each year, the United Nations commemorates June 26 as “International day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” and encourages anti-drug organizations and activists around the world to mark the day with activities that raise awareness of the major problem illicit drugs are to society.
The Foundation for a Drug-Free World has distributed over 150,000 booklets in the Tampa Bay area and 22 million worldwide in its effort to address the drug problem. Drugs destroy millions of lives every year. The most disturbing aspect of this problem is the damage drug abuse does to our young people - and the threat this represents to the future of our country. With more and more young people being introduced to drugs, it is vital to provide educational materials with factual information about their dangers.

And for the person whose drug use has turned into a drug problem, there are also real solutions to addiction. Narconon, a drug rehabilitation program that utilizes the methods of L. Ron Hubbard, has a success rate of more than 75%. For more information on this drug-free method of substance abuse treatment, visit www.narconon.org.

Time to end the war on drugs

The only way to deal with drugs effectively is to legalise and regulate. Until prohibition ends, efforts to deal with drugs are wasted.

legalise drugs then the problem will go away, it's worked so well with tobacco and alcohol.

Can anyone remeber that time when they were a huge problem and lung cancer, alcoholism were in existance,

Thankfully we have legalised them and they cant do any harm now.

against war on drugs

anon, you're a brainwashed idiot. Tobacco and alcohol are much more harmful than many of the drugs that are considered class A . It's not a matter of harm, it's a matter of government control. Your bosses don't give a shit about your well-being, but don't want you to take substances that make you more aware, like psychedelics. Responsible and informed attitude to them is surely needed, but it should be the answer, not the ban.
And indymedia should not post scientology propaganda, it's not the first time they get away with posting their crap.
