EMICS offices in Nottingham targeted

Resist the Arms Trade, Resist Capitalism | 25.06.2010 16:51

In the early hours of Friday morning, the gates to the offices of EMICS in the Radford area of Nottingham were chained shut and graffiti was sprayed on the wall saying 'SMASH EMICS'

EMICS provides calibration services for the major arms company Qinetiq, and so was targeted for its role in the global war machine.

This action was done in solidarity with the Smash EDO campaign and the EDO Decommissioners currently facing trial.

I've never heard of this company before although it sounds like they're in my back yard. Anyone got any more details?

EMICS is not an arms company - it provides measurement and instrument calibration services to companies in various industries, including automotive, pharmaceutical and engineering.

However, the company does advertise its services to the "defence" industry in the British Defence Equipment Catalogue. ( http://www.bdec-online.com/bd-cmpy/bd-ce.cfm#EMILTD) and two of its high profile clients are QinetiQ (a large military R&D company privatised by New Labour) and Rolls Royce (which makes military aircraft and propulsion systems for military subs).

The company's website is www.emics.co.uk.
