Brighton migrant solidarity demo
Brighton Calais Migrant Solidarity | 12.06.2010 15:43 | Migration | South Coast
On Saturday 19th June 2010, Brighton Calais Migrant Solidarity will be
targeting the source of all repression against those who have, or attempt,
to migrate to the UK: the United Kingdom Border Agency.
targeting the source of all repression against those who have, or attempt,
to migrate to the UK: the United Kingdom Border Agency.
UKBA’s oppression extends beyond UK borders. For example, there are many
living in limbo in Calais in ‘Jungles’ where they face homelessness,
without food, clothing or clean water. There they are being consistently
persecuted and dehumanised, not solely by the French police, but with the
active support and encouragement of the UKBA.
G4S have been targeted for the commercial profit they gain running abusive
private migrant detention facilities.
Far right groups have been opposed for the racist anti migrant rhetoric
they have popularised.
Airlines have been protested for their complicity in deportations to war
zones, to repressive regimes, to poverty, to the dangers that people have
fled.
Brighton Calais Migrant Solidarity recognises that the contracts would
never be granted, the privately outsourced deportations never run, the
racist dismissal of persons who have migrated never encouraged, without
the callous and racially discriminatory attitude and actions of the UKBA.
Brighton is home to its very own UKBA office. BCMS calls for all groups
and individuals who oppose the repression and abuse of those who choose or
are forced to migrate, to join us on a march to the UKBA office and protest the
continued human rights violations that it perpetrates.
The Border Agency’s role is far from one of complicity, it is one of
facilitation, one of complete responsibility for every woman, man and
child imprisoned without charge, denied the right to work, criminalised
and forced to return to lives of danger and destitution, or death.
On June 19th our solidarity is not only with those repressed once in the
UK, but with those not even across the border, who still face a
persecution that can be traced back to the UK government.
Meet at noon at Churchill Square, Brighton
Accomodation will be available.
