With the Islamist conference scrapped by its venue, it looks like the EDL 'demo' may also be off.

Islamic conference scrapped by East End venue

East London Advertiser 10 June 2010

A controversial Islamic conference due to take place on June 20 has been scrapped by the Troxy.

The Commercial Road venue was set to host 'The Book that Shook the World' but has changed its position after signing a council pledge.

A spokesman for the Troxy said: "We recently signed up to the council's No Place for Hate campaign and feel that some of the speakers have the potential to clash with the terms of the pledge."

Although none of the speakers due to attend the conference are on the government's banned list, a number of complaints were received.

Sources say a march by a far-right group, the English Defence League, protesting the conference may also be cancelled.

[no doubt the EDL will claim victory, when in fact they are disappointed to buggery that they don't have their original excuse to tit about the East End now. Bollocks to them - well done to all the people in the area that called, emailed and visited the Troxy to demand the event be scrapped. We've shown we can take care of our own back yard and the EDL are posturing muppets.]
