Photos show Mavi Marmara passengers protecting and aiding Israeli soldiers
An additional photo, not included in the Hürriyet gallery, but posted on theFacebook fan page of The Economist shows the same soldier, and the person who was holding him, while a third person administers medical care. (Thanks to http://twitter.com/AmoonaM for tracking down this picture)

Finally, the fact that passengers were giving aid to captured Israeli hijackers even as the ship was still under full scale assault by the Israeli military is bolstered by video which has recently emerged of the first moments of the attack. In the video, passengers are appealing for help and one says clearly that several soldiers were injured in their descent from the choppers, that they had been taken by the passengers and were receiving medical care. This is in the thick of the action, so it seems entirely credible that the passenger is reporting what he had just witnessed.

That's pretty sick dude. Especially when you see how Reuters have apparently cropped the footage to remove weapons, pools of blood, and injured soldiers.

Passengers have every right to use force against an armed assault

07.06.2010 08:20

If you are passengers on an aid ship and masked armed men land on your ship, I think you have every right to use force against them. It's a shame more of the Israeli soldiers weren't seriously injured or killed.

Although tactically it might not be a good idea to attack them, seeing as they have machine guns and the passengers only have sticks and knives. But it's still totally right in moral terms.

These so called peace activists wanted to beat and kill Jews. Hopefully they have learned a lesson.

the right to lie

07.06.2010 10:51

"Passengers have every right to use force against an armed assault "

That's as maybe, but did they have the right to lie about it though? Do armed men have the right to infiltrate a peaceful protest and call themselves "peace activists"? Do armed, angry men looking for a fight have the right to be on the same boat as little kids and old people?

Face it - this is some kind of spooky Turkish spook thing. Like the equivelant of a psy-op. You've heard of them haven't you? The eeeeevil Americans aren't the only ones who manipulate people into war you know.

Israel was wrong.Their soldiers cowardly attacking people, pretending to be heroes. Has there ever been a time when the IDF acted like a proper soldiers? ie restrained, self-controlled and above all - PROTECTING THE WEAK AND DEFENCELESS. Israel you've shamed yourself and the jewish people yet again, now go in peace. shalom

Good job they managed to overcome him, imagine how many people this IDF soldier could have killed otherwise?

When people are being murdered the most peaceful thing you can do is stop them. Note that no IDF soldiers were murdered.

The cries of censorship are ironic given that Israel stole all footage from the activists and edited it for their own propaganda.

why is it that

07.06.2010 17:38

Whenever indymedia lose the argument they resort to censorship, like the good little totalitarians they are?

Thank god the rest of us live in a democracy

doesnt show much

Doesn't show the actual boarding though, does it? You can see them descend and hear sounds of some kind of battle but there's no particular evidence, just lots of shouting and blur-o-vision
