ONE DAY, FIVE OFFICES DEMO'D

Activists from West Yorkshire Animal Rights Group today held a mobile day of action against companies involved in the construction of the new animal laboratory at the University of Leicester. The day was a massive success and we will be holding another in the near future.

NG BAILEY HEAD OFFICE
First of all we arrived at NG Bailey's Head Office (Denton Hall, Ilkley, LS29 0HH - Tel: 01943 601933) because they are the main sub-contractors for construction. Upon arrival, it was obvious that they were panicking as new security guards milled around the premises and the gates at the enterance to the mansion house which they inhabit were locked. Bailey think they have the right to close the public right of way through the site, so when a car arrived activists ran straight through the gate and round the right of way! Following this, the site went into complete lockdown with nobody (but campaigners on another two occasions) entering or leaving the site. Banners were held across the enterance and chants echoed around the valley, with NG Bailey left in no doubt of our determination to stop the new lab. After a brief visit from the North Yorkshire Police Armed Response Unit, who were acting reasonable, we moved on to stick to our schedule.

NG BAILEY - BRADFORD
Our next port of call was the NG Bailey Building Services site (Bailey Building Services, Cutler Heights Lane Bradford, BD4 9JF - Tel: 01274 682856) where the site immediately went into lockdown. Support was received from locals as a large "Stop the Leicester Animal Lab" banner was held across the only enterance to the site. Our continuous chanting informed everybody about the disgusting construction NG Bailey are heavily involved in. After half an hour there, we moved on.

WILLMOTT DIXON - LEEDS
Last week, Willmott Dixon sent all their staff home early and closed for the day due to the day of action, however any company involved in animal abuse should know that they don't get off that easy and so we returned again when they were not expecting us. Immediately the site went into lockdown as everybody around was informed of the new lab WD are building and how anybody working for this vile company should be ashamed of themselves. Chants of "Willmott Dixon, What a Discrage - Come Out Here and Show Us Your Face" let the company know what we think of their sickening attitude and lies about the project they are involved in, despite being well aware of the new building's purpose. After leafleting the whole business park and getting lots of support from neighbouring businesses, we moved on.

NG BAILEY TRAINING ACADEMY - LEEDS
The next stop was the Bailey Training Academy (7 Brown Lane West, Leeds, LS12 6EH - Tel: 0113 243 9921) who had employed extra sexurity since our previous visit. The site went into complete lockdown as the car park gate was shut and no staff were allowed to leave. Chants echoed around the site and NG Bailey immediately got on the phone to the police and head office. Unfortunately, despite their claims in the press, we have the right to protest and cannot be moved on! After a while, it was time to move on.

NG BAILEY JOHNSON - LEEDS
TO finish off, we held a noisy demo outside NG Bailey Johnson (Wyther Lane, Kirkstall, Leeds, LS5 3BT - Tel: 0113 275 9048) which is only a small office for the company. Banners were tied to their fence and the megaphone was used to inform everybody around about the 200 animals set to die each day inside Leicester University if this lab is ever finished. A large group of people from another business stood watching the demo and gave a lot of support, saying they were disgusting such a business was on their doorstep. As the business was closing for the day, we left determined to return again.

For every animal set to die if the Leicester Lab is ever completed, we fight on and fight back.
