Bristol Zimbabwe Association brings you 10 hours of food, fun, film, dance and debate! A free Refugee Week event that gets you close to the culture, politics and people of a beautiful but troubled land.
2pm - 12 midnight: FREE!
2pm: Gumboot dance workshop with Cecilia Ndhlovu - a fun workshop of this traditional dance style, developed by South African miners as a means of communication. Suitable for everybody who can jump up & down!
4pm: Film – Democracy Missing Presumed Dead – an undercover look at the 2008 elections. Followed by discussion led by Ingrid Sinclair.
6pm: Delicious Zimbabwean food! (£5/plate).
7.30pm: Talk Zimbabwe!
1) “Hope & Despair: the Inclusive Government of Zimbabwe” with Eddy Mushayanyama.
2) “UK Border Agency’s immigration and asylum policy towards Zimbabweans” with Sarah Harland (Zimbabwe Association,
London); Amelia Leung (Leung & Co Solicitors); Kerry McCarthy MP. Chair: Paulette North (Bristol Defend Asylum Campaign).
