Help Stop Wikham Labs Planning Appeal!

NAVA | 31.05.2010 20:13 | Animal Liberation | South Coast

Wickham Laboratories were refused planning permission unanimously on two occassions by Winchester Council for a huge new complex at Torbay Farm (Sciviers Lane, Lower Upham, SO32 1HB) where dogs, rodents and other animals were set to be used in experiments.

The proposed site also infringes the South Downs National Park, which was founded to protect the environment, areas of outstanding natural beauty and sustainability. As a result, locals, councillors and MP's have outstandingly spoken out against the project.

Wickham are currently being investigated by the Home Office after an investigation by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) revealed horrific suffering of animals inside the existing facilities to test Botox. A raid by animal protection activists in 2003 also exposed the continuation of Lethal Dose 50 (LD50) experiments to test the cosmetic substance. Not only this, the laboratory owner, William Cartmell, has been outspoken in his call upon charities and rescue centres to hand over animals to be used for vivisection.

A Planning Application Appeal Hearing is to be held for Wickham Laboratories this Wednesday 2nd June and Thursday 3rd June at the King Charles Suite, Winchester Guildhall, Winchester, Hampshire. Stop Wickham Animal Testing (SWAT) have organised a demonstration over both days of the appeal, so please attend if you live in the South of England.
