Gaza aid flotilla protest - Monday 2pm Downing Street

I’ve been watching with some interest the progress of the Gaza aid flotilla, and their concerns about being subjected to attack by Israeli gunboats etc.
Periodic updates about this situation are available by signing up to the Viva Palestina Mailing List, with additional reports coming in from talestotell.
And now I’ve just received the following call-out from the Stop the War Coalition (not an organisation with whom I’ve had much truck in recent years, although in this particular case the cause is worthwhile) for an emergency demonstration this Monday, 31st May, at Downing Street.

Four Israeli war ships have surrounded the international flotilla
of seven ships bringing aid to Gaza. Satellite signals from the
flotilla are being intermittently jammed.
The Gaza Freedom Flotilla is 90 miles from the Gaza shores;
sailing in international waters where Israel has no jurisdiction.
Once again Israel is breaking international law and committing
piracy. It has long threatened this peaceful Flotilla, and is
now determined to stop it from reaching its destination.
Approximately 700 civilians are on board the seven ships, of whom
28 are British citizens.
An emergency demonstration has been called for Monday 31 May,
2.00pm, at Downing Street, demanding that the British government
protest against Israel’s violation of international law.

Text: (Cyprus, 31 May 2010) At 2300 Cyprus time and in international waters off the coast of Israel, the boats were contacted by the Israeli navy. “Who are you and where are you going?” Our reply was that we were part of a flotilla and we were going to Gaza to deliver humanitarian supplies.
On the radar, the boats could see three Israeli warships shadowing us, and 15 minutes later, a silent aircraft hovered over the flotilla.
One of our Hebrew speakers and Israel specialist has warned us about Israel’s strategy: “You will be boarded by highly trained, very efficient and very SILENT commandos. They will use silent inflatable boats to get to your boats and both try to board your boats directly from the inflatables and by dropping divers into the water to climb onto the boats,” so be prepared for them to come up and over the sides of the ships.

Lubna Marsawa, Free Gaza’s organizer on the Turkish passenger boat, said in outrage: “Very few times in history has a flotilla delivering humanitarian goods been welcomed by warships.”
This is a call to the world from the people on the boats. “We are a civilian people doing what our governments have refused to do, challenge Israel’s right to collectively punish 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza by blockading their right to their own sea. This flotilla is bringing construction and educational supplies to the people of Gaza and is being met by Israeli warships.”
