Loughborough Animal Action protest at ‘Peter Jolly’s Traditional Animal Circus’ which took place Tuesday 25th May until Monday 31st May in Quorn.

There was a peaceful demonstration held at the circus today (29th May), in which we were both verbally and physically abused for no apparent reason, and our property was damaged (cars and mobile phones). They threatened us saying they’d find out where we live, threw cigarette ends at us, once the police had left the workers said “You’re not safe now your mates have gone”, and they proved their disregard for the animals as they said “Right, back to whipping the horses”. We have already taken up this matter with the police, as they were present and we have photographic evidence and witness reports.

If you are not already aware, this circus has been exposed for keeping animal in cages in the backs of lorries, leaving exotic creatures out in the rain next to pubs, depriving animals of food and water and beating them. They have been banned from using bears due to the manner in which they were treated.

As recently as March this year a Government consultation, to which over 10,000 people responded, found that 94.5% of people want a ban on wild animal circus acts, and over 200 councils have banned animal acts from their land. The distaste for this circus in particular was clear from the fact that many people arriving turned around and left once they realised the cruelty involved.
