Controversial Anti-Shell Protester Maura Harrington has died

It has been reported that well known "Shell To Sea"campaigner & Mayo native Maura Harrington has passed away.
Harrington played a prominent role in the campaign against the proposed construction of a natural gas pipeline through Rossport, County Mayo, Republic of Ireland by the international petroleum giant Royal Dutch Shell. She became the face of the so-called Shell to Sea campaign & was jailed a number of times on charges such as trespass, assaulting a police officer, as well as "lunging" towards Irish President Mary McAleese. - For which she was found guilty of a public order offense. A former school teacher Harrington was reportedly taken by ambulance paramedics to Mayo General Hospital but passed away en route. It is believed that she died as a result of a suspected heart attack.Harrington is survived by her husband Naoise Ó Mongain. More information will be provided as soon as it comes in.
