Had best define what you want

Or what you get might be most unfortunate.

From what little details I have seen I suspect that in at least some of these cases the child is NOT technically "being detained", just not being separated from mommy who is being detained. I think that in at least some of these cases the CHILD may have residency/citizenship rights in Britain.

Do you REALLY want those exercised imemdiately? Because form the viewpoint of the welfare of the child I do not consider it best that the child be "taken into care".

Don't get me wrong here. I think I do know what you want. I think you want that since the child has these rights (to remain in Britain) should be able to act as a "sponsor" for its mother to remain in order to care for it. BUT YOU NEED TO SAY THAT (or whatever it is you want). Because JUST saying "don't send the child into the detention center" is likely to mean something that none of us wants.

Nowhere does the phrase "taken into care" occur in the issued statement, which consistently refers to families as a whole. The practice (in Scotland at least) is that children are not separated from their primary carer. The Childrens Commissioner has been attentive to that.

The "be careful what you wish for" thing has already been triggered by the state deciding to move families down to Yarls Wood so they can say they're not detained in Scotland. Hence this statement.
