At dawn this morning, ALIU volunteers inspected the DEFRA / VLA site on Adel Lane, Weetwood, Leeds, LS16 5PZ as they were rumoured to have a functioning animal unit.

We know that the vivisection facilities have been used for viscous virology and infection experiments on sheep and other animals. In the 1980's, the Animal Liberation Front raided the facility and burnt a building down in protest at the horrors occuring there.

Upon arrival, we split up and looked around the site, however could see no signs of animal use with the exception of one building which is large, windowless and has vents and water butts on the roof (something associated with agricultural vivisection labs) located to the North side of the site nearest Otley Road.

We had a look around this building and it is obvious this is the animal house, however it appeared to not have been used for a number of years. The rest of the site is being used solely for administration purposes.
